Nyborg Castle will serve as the impressive backdrop for your start and finish of GFNY Nyborg. The long and medium route riders will line up together and take on a mass start. GFNY Nyborg is a fast course, with many flat sections as well as gradual climbs and fun descents.
The initial 7km to get onto the loop portion of the course is flat and fast. You’ll pass near the spectacular Holckenhavn Castle just as the loop begins, you may catch a glimpse of it to your left. The first hill is Stevnshøj, a scenic climb that rises to 53 meters above sea level with a length of 1.5km, 2.5% average and 3.8% max incline and offers sweeping views. Next, you will enjoy a fast section through country roads connecting coastal villages of Eastern Funen, along a rolling landscape known as "Denmark's Garden" for its forests, fruit orchards, hedgerows, historic manors, and thatched-roof farmhouses.
Skovbakker is the next hill, rising to 56 meters above sea level near the village of Langå, with 35m of climbing over 2.5km. The next 6km are an enjoyable downhill. As you reach the southern-most end of the course and then make the turn inland, this 22km section has net climbing, with Oure, Højbjerg and Grønbanke hills. Grønbanke marks the highest point on the course at 120m.
From the top of Grønbanke, you’ll enjoy a 20km descending section to complete the loop. You’ll ride by charming historic villages. Svindinge features classic half-timbered houses and sits next to Glorup Manor, a historic estate with a public landscape park that once inspired Hans Christian Andersen. Frørup is a quiet agricultural settlement centered around an ancient, whitewashed Romanesque stone church.
After the Kogsbølle Landhandel farm is the course split, where the medium route riders will turn left to head back to Nyborg Castle and long route riders will turn right and take on the 60km loop a second time. At the finish of the second loop, all long route riders will turn left after Kogsbølle Landhandel and head back to Nyborg Castle.
At the finish line, a festive celebration awaits you, your friends and family. Music, finisher medals, photos, a post-race meal, the awards ceremony, plus some relaxing and reliving the day with friends and celebrating your achievements.
